Michael Hearst‘s “Unusual Creatures” project for PBS Digital Studios has received a Telly Award for excellence in online feature production!

In November, we wrote about the project, which involves pairing sound, text, and video with various abnormal animals.

Most of Hearst’s work involves marrying visual art and music. Hearst is the founding member of the band One Ring Zero, which originated in Richmond in 1998, three years after Hearst graduated from VCU with a degree in music composition. Both Hearst’s solo work and One Ring Zero take a unique approach when making music by employing sound as an integral part of telling a multimedia story. It’s no wonder the Boston Phoenix said of One Ring Zero: “…never mind the Billboard charts, these guys ought to be on the Times Bestseller List.”

Check out more of Hearst’s whimsical and thought-provoking projects on his website, as well as on One Ring Zero’s site.
