A few words on the series BROAD STREET is publishing in fall 2016 …

Some of the poems in this series refer to my experiences since being diagnosed with lung cancer three years ago. Even though the time since has been far from easy, there have been many joyful and humorous moments. “Home Security” and “A Hypochondriac’s Guide to the Body” reflect uneasy but humorous events.

I think of myself as a writer with cancer, rather than a cancer writer. Life is so full and multi-layered that I am still intrigued with such diverse subjects as evolutionary biology, natural history, and the political scene as well as my own personal experience. In the meantime, treatment has come a long way in the last few years, and I have hope for continued time on this lovely Earth.

Editors’ note:  Marylen passed away on February 14, 2017.  She was brave and hopeful till the end.
